“Andrea De Zordo is an Italian Formula 1 engineer, currently Technical Director of the Haas F1 Team.”
Career path
He began in F1 as a stress engineer at Minardi around 2001, staying through roughly 2004 in the squad's pre-Red Bull era. He then moved to McLaren for about five years as a design engineer during a period that produced the title-winning MP4-23, before returning to Italy to join Ferrari as a senior design engineer. Over more than a decade at Maranello he rose through the design hierarchy to Head of Mechanical Design and ultimately Deputy Chief Designer, building the kind of broad mechanical-design pedigree that underpins a technical-director role. 12
Move to Haas
In 2021 De Zordo was recruited from Ferrari to Haas as Chief Designer, an arrangement enabled by the cost-cap era and Haas's close Ferrari ties, with much of his work done from a design office near Ferrari's Maranello base. He arrived alongside fellow Ferrari man Simone Resta, who took the technical-director post. 12
Technical Director
In 2024 Komatsu promoted De Zordo to Technical Director, replacing Simone Resta, who had held the role for three seasons. Komatsu praised him warmly, calling him "a very technical person" whose "communication is good, he's very engaged and he listens to people." In the role he oversees the design and development of the Haas car and leads the team's technical group across its Italian and British bases. 23
Integrating the bases
A key part of De Zordo's remit has been knitting Haas's Maranello design office and its UK operation more closely together under Komatsu's structure — a deliberate push to make a geographically split team operate as one. That integration has been credited as part of the reason the car improved through 2024 into 2025. 2
Bottom line
De Zordo is a quietly accomplished, Ferrari-schooled engineer whose understated profile belies a deep design pedigree spanning Minardi, McLaren and Ferrari. As Haas's Technical Director he is the central figure shaping the team's cars during its recent competitive resurgence. 12
